Applied Professional Studies Programs: Sport Management and Music Industry
The programs emphasize on applied fields of study with a strong interdisciplinary component and practical experience. All students in these programs are required to take an internship as part of their studies.
Sport Management
Students in Sport Management are getting prepared to enter the fields of sport marketing, sport management, sport administration, ticket sales, event and season promotions, sport journalism, sport broadcast, customer service, event and venue management to name just a few. Part of student's experience is serving as an intern at a professional sport organization where the majors apply their theoretical classroom knowledge to a professional setting that reflects their professional aspirations.
Music Industry
The Music Industry major is for students interested in a comprehensive exploration of the various facets of the music industry including: contracts, publishing (copyrights, dissemination of the intellectual property licensing, music books, exploitation of catalog), the record business (recording, artist management, licensing, record distribution), tour management, self-employment business basics, marketing, business and legal affairs, public relations, promotion, sales and distribution, merchandising, and artist relations and ethics in the music industry. There is no audition for this major.
There are about 110 majors in Sport Management and 150 majors in Music Industry.
We also offer three minors - Athletic Coaching, Music Industry, and Sport Management. In addition, a number of physical education courses are offered to all Fredonia students, such as aqua-aerobic, lifeguard training, yoga, zumba, body sculpturing, ice-skating, self-defense, and others, which introduce students to strength and weight training, body toning, power-lifting, agility, rhythmic movement, balance, and aerobic exercise.
