Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students

Scholarships

Current and accepted students will receive an email from the Graduate Studies office in April with an application deadline of mid-May. Please contact the Graduate Studies office with further questions. Please note that you must submit a separate application for each scholarship.

Len & Carole Faulk Graduate Fund

  • How much: Varies - usually between $500-$1000 yearly.
  • Who can apply: Graduate students pursuing master's degrees and advanced certificate programs.
  • Deadline: Usually an application memo is sent each September.
  • Details: An essay is required. Optional recommendation letters from faculty members are accepted.

Robert and Elinor Grennell Scholarship

  • How much: Varies - usually between $500-$1000 yearly.
  • Who can apply: Graduate students with financial need.
  • Deadline: Usually an application memo is sent each September.
  • Details: An essay is required. Optional recommendation letters from faculty members are accepted.

Mallette Family Scholarship

  • How much: Varies - usually between $500-$1000 yearly.
  • Who can apply: Graduate students pursuing studies in education. Must be in good standing. If all things equal, preference is given to a first-generation college student.
  • Deadline: Usually an application memo is sent each September.
  • Details: An essay is required. Optional recommendation letters from faculty members are accepted.

FELLOWSHIPS

Graduate Diversity Fellowship

  • How much: Yearly awards of $5000, $2500, and $1000, depending on budget.
  • Who can apply: Candidates are required to be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. They must demonstrate how they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the diversity of the student body by facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in their academic programs and campus activities. Even though financial need is not a requirement for program eligibility, applicants may utilize economic disadvantage as a basis for eligibility. The Graduate Diversity Fellowship Scholarship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and are consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. All application submissions will be assessed and evaluated in accordance with the required eligibility criteria.

  • Details: Short Essay requirement. As part of the application process, students should submit an essay that addresses the following: In 600 words or less, please respond to the following essay prompt: “Please describe how you’ve engaged, facilitated, and/or enhanced diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in your campus and/or local community. Examples could include personal, academic, and/or work experience and may include, but is not limited to, student’s potential to contribute to enhancing diversity efforts in their academic programs at SUNY and campus communities; experiences overcoming economic, social, educational disadvantages, and/or other barriers”.  The essay should be sent to provost.office@fredonia.edu

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

Academic Assistantships: Teaching, supervising labs, clinical work, working in academic offices

  • How much: Full assistantships (20 hours per week): $6700 per year stipend; tuition waiver for 18 credit hours per year at the New York State resident rate. Half assistantships (10 hours per week): $3350 per year stipend; tuition waiver for 9 credit hours per year at the New York State resident rate.
