For the annual Resident Director / Resident Assistant Fire Safety training, we invited Nancy VanVoorhees, the State Fire Marshal, to come to campus and give the trainees a hands-on lesson. Each trainee was given the opportunity to use an extinguisher to put out a real fire and enter a smoke filled hallway to see what a real fire situation would be like. RAs and RDs are also involved in a discussion about common residence hall room violations. View pictures of their training below.
Nancy VanVoorhees, the New York State Fire Marshal, started off the training with a presentation on fire safety.
John Przybycien came with Nancy and demonstrated the proper use of a fire extinguisher to the RAs and RDs.
The RAs and RDs were then given the opportunity to use an extinguisher to put out a real fire.
This seemed to be the favorite part of the training this year. Even the infamous Dan Goodwin, long-time RD here at Fredonia, got involved and showed off his fire-fighting abilities. Let's just hope he doesn't have to do this in the new University Commons!
