The Stavrides Award for Outdoor Interests (Natural Environment)
A 1946 graduate of Fredonia and a recipient of an MLA degree from Stony Brook University, Marie Stavrides had a meaningful and distinguished career as an elementary school educator. While at Fredonia, Marie was inspired by Dr. Stanley’s outdoor education field biology course. She had a broad interest in preserving the natural environment and perpetuating individual involvement in the outdoors.
This scholarship is awarded annually to a sophomore, junior or senior, or graduate student who exhibits passion/enthusiasm for the environment and has shown interest in gaining knowledge and/or sharing knowledge regarding the outdoors. This includes interest in the area of environmental protection, plants, woods, animals, mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, forest management and biology/botany research.
