Forensics (or Forensic Science) is the application of scientific methods to resolve legal disputes, most commonly in criminal law. Forensics as a profession includes a number of specific careers. Examples include Forensic Toxicologist, Crime Scene Investigator, Criminalist, Forensic Psychologist, Forensic Anthropologist, Forensic Accountant, and Digital/Computer Forensic Analyst.

Although SUNY Fredonia has no degree program in Forensics, several faculty members at Fredonia are able to advise students on preparation for potential Forensics careers. This can involve advising about course selection, choosing a degree program or minor, and applying to graduate school. Fredonia’s programs in Biology, Medical Technology, Molecular Genetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Accounting and Computer Science, among others, are potentially relevant to forensics careers, depending on students’ individual interests and goals.

Students interested in forensics careers are encouraged to contact members of the committee (see contact information below) for guidance.

Mission Statement

The Forensics Advising Committee at Fredonia works to advise and support students in preparing for potential careers in forensics, by guiding students regarding course selection, major and minor selection, and graduate school options.
