The Bachelor of Arts degree program in French provides a balanced approach to the development of language skills and the acquisition of a broad and solid knowledge of the literature, culture, and civilization of France and the Francophone world. Students develop linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy.

FREN 315 French Masterpieces

An introduction to the three literary genres: fiction, theatre, and poetry, with an emphasis on poetry and fiction. Selections are from a wide variety of authors and time periods, from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

FREN 317 French Conversation

Exercises and activities designed to promote conversations about readings, films, and/or issues in France and the French-speaking world. Ample opportunities to practice understanding and speaking French in pair and small group settings.

FREN 423 Senior Seminar

In-depth study of a literary or cultural topic selected by the instructor. Major written paper and oral presentation required. All work to be done in French.
