BFA Dance
Admission to the program is through a video audition or live audition. Students who are interested in applying to the program through a video audition must submit their video material via Acceptd. Live auditions run from the beginning of February and continue through the end of March. All auditions will be held on the Fredonia Campus.
Video Audition Requirements:
- Contemporary/Modern Dance (2 minutes): A center or traveling phrase or phrases, no more than 2 minutes in length, that demonstrates the dancer’s understanding of the use of weight and space, and elements such as turns, falls, jumps, and floor work.
- Jazz Dance (2 minutes): A center or traveling phrase or phrases, no more than 2 minutes in length, that demonstrates the dancer’s understanding of Africanist aesthetics, an articulate torso, isolation, syncopation, and groove.
- Ballet (2 minutes): A short tendu/pirouette and adagio phrase in the center, (no more than 32 bars), and allegro work in the center (16 bars petit allegro, 16 bars grand allegro)
- Solo Performance (90 seconds): A self-choreographed solo in the style of contemporary, jazz, or any other movement style that demonstrates your dance background.
Please note: Total length of the video submission may not exceed 8 minutes.
Please note: All dancers must wear form-filled, dance-appropriate attire for all parts of their audition.
5. Resume and Personal Statement (no more than 2 pages, typed and double-spaced): In your own words, please tell me what dance means to you and why you want to study dance at Fredonia. This can take any number of forms: you could tell us about the most memorable dancing experience you’ve ever had up to this point, you could let us know what aspects of dance interest you most, or you could tell us about your goals for the future. All prospective students auditioning by video must submit the following materials:
