Scholarships & Awards that require student applications:

Rodney W. Welling Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was established in 2006 by friends and family of Rod Welling (a December 2001 Graduate in Graphic Design who died in 2004) to recognize a student in our department with a strong work ethic and who has had a positive influence on other students. Students can apply for consideration, and the department’s Scholarship Committee makes the selection. This award is applied towards tuition in the following semester.


Scholarships & Awards that are presented:

George W. Booth Visual Arts Scholarship - This award is for an incoming freshman in VANM, and is for the students first year only. Recipient is selected by portfolio review with consideration given to academic standing.

Crafts Alliance Award for Excellence in Art -Established by the Crafts Alliance, a countywide organization, this award is granted on a yearly basis to a deserving fine art major as determined by the Departmental Faculty through the 24 Hour review process. This award is applied toward the recipient’s tuition the following semester.

The Marano-Gnirke Scholarship was established in1996 by alumni from the graduating classes of 1979-1981 in memory of their deceased classmates Brian Marano (ceramics 1979) and Edward Gnirke (sculpture 1980). The recipient of the Marano-Gnirke Scholarship is selected during the 24 Hour Review process in the Department of Visual Art and New Media, and is applied towards tuition the following semester.

The GWB Award in Visual Art/Sculpture is given in recognition of a student’s commitment, effort, and accomplishments in this 3-D studio area, and is typically given to a student of junior or senior status. This cash award is intended to help defray the cost of materials, tools, and supplies in the pursuit of excellence.

Dr. Daniel D. Reiff Art History Scholarship - Dan Reiff joined the Fredonia faculty in 1970, and for the next 34 years taught a wide range of courses in Art and Architectural History. Having retired in 2004 we are pleased to be able to award this scholarship in memory and recognition of Dan’s years of outstanding service to the department and his students. This cash award is given to an Art History major, based on GPA, to help with the cost of their education.

The Carl J. Nordell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an upper level student majoring in Animation/Illustration or Drawing and Painting based on achievement and professional potential.

Colonel David Correll Photography Scholarship – Colonel Correll is a resident of Westfield, NY, and who has a personal interest in Architectural Restoration, History, and Photography. Established in 2007 this scholarship is awarded to a photography major based on achievement and professional potential.

The Fredonia’s Potter’s Co-op Award was established through annual sales of student ceramics and is awarded to an upper level student, chosen by the faculty in that area, to serve as a studio assistant and kiln technician.

The Robert Marvel Award - This award is shared by the Departments of Visual Art, Theater and Dance, and Music. It is given to a to a student each spring in the form of campus recognition and money applied toward the following semester’s tuition. The scholarship is available on a rotational system within these departments, and is awarded on the basis of academic standing and recognized achievement within their discipline.
