Vision of General Education
The State University of New York at Fredonia seeks to provide students with both a specialized and a general education. The specialized work prepares students in particular fields of knowledge for careers, professions, and other specific goals. The general education provides the context in which the specialized areas of knowledge become more meaningful. The purpose of general education is to promote the development of educated citizens and to help students find a sense of direction in a changing world. The Fredonia general education program therefore seeks to help students develop self-awareness, interdisciplinary knowledge, aesthetic sensitivity, global perspectives, and the ability to think critically and communicate effectively.
