Textbook Savings for Students
Since Fall 2018
Open Scholarship is an umbrella term used to describe the practice of applying principles of "openness" throughout the research and scholarly environment. This could come in the form of publishing in an open access journal, the creation and use of open educational resources (OER) in teaching practice, transparency in research methodology, or public availability and reusability of research data... Numerous Fredonia faculty members have redesigned their courses to integrate Open Educational Resources (OER) over the past several years. Building off of this momentum and expanding our efforts more broadly, Fredonia can continue applying principles of openness across campus.
Please view our Open Education Toolkit for more information.

A new round of incentives to encourage the adoption and creation of OER and open pedagogy practices at Fredonia are available. Application Deadlines: Rolling
Adopting an OER textbook to replace traditional textbook and modifying course and assignments to adapt to the new text (3 years)
Incentive: $350
Replacing 75% (or more) of required texts/readings with OER or no-cost/freely available content. In this scenario, there isn’t one textbook readily available and the faculty member is pulling content from multiple OER/freely available sources.
Incentive: $600
Rather than simply being information consumers, open pedagogy allows students to be engaged through the process of creating openly licensed material for assignments that can live on beyond a single semester, and may even be built upon by future students.
Incentive: $600
