About Fred Ruterbusch
(1954-2003)

In 1976, Fred placed 5th in the javelin at the NCAA Division III outdoor Track & Field championships, becoming the first Track & Field All American at Fredonia State. For over 25 years Fred was an avid supporter of FSU’s Track & Field and Cross Country programs. With his untimely passing in 2003 the programs lost a good friend, a supportive alumnus and a great mentor.

About the Run

The inaugural Ruterbusch Memorial 5k was held in the Fall of 2006. This event is now held biennially to honor Fred’s memory and to celebrate his lively spirit and love of life. Proceeds from the first gathering were used to place a memorial bench and plaque near the SUNY Fredonia outdoor track in Fred’s honor. The bench serves as a reminder of Fred’s accomplishments and his support of the FSU Track & Field and Cross Country programs.

Proceeds from this year’s event, to be held in conjunction with the University’s 2010 Homecoming, will benefit the Phillips Cross Country and Track & Field Fund. The Fund provides financial support for Fredonia’s men’s and women’s Cross Country and Track & Field programs.
