Ana J. Santos, ’04, will be honored as the 2015 Distinguished Alumna at Fredonia’s Educational Development Program’s (EDP) 33rd annual awards ceremony, slated for Wednesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center.

EDP’s Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to a graduate of Fredonia’s Educational Development Program who has accomplished personal and career goals and demonstrated a commitment to leadership and academic excellence. The EDP program staff note that Ms. Santos is fulfilling the program motto of “Going Above and Beyond.”
Living in the Tampa, Fla., area after graduating Fredonia, Santos has been working in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida (USF), where she is working on her master’s degree in Public Health and Biostatistics. As the manager of fiscal and business administration, Santos is a certified research administrator and her main duties include managing the financial administration of all sponsored reach projects, fiscal and administrative compliance, budgetary planning, review of all grant-related expense processes, and liaison with other USF departments to resolve budget issues. Santos received the 2010 Outstanding Staff Award at USF.
Santos graduated from Fredonia in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Management Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science. While at Fredonia, Santos received the EDP Ralph Wilson Book Award, was inducted into Chi Alpha Epsilon honor society, and was involved with the Fredonia Leadership Program, McNair Scholars Program, Latinos Unidos and Black Student Union.
“EDP was my home for four years. I am greatly honored by this award.” Santos wrote upon hearing she would win this award, “Since Ms. (Janet) Knapp was my counselor, I developed a very special bond with her. Her door was always open and she was my rock at Fredonia.”
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Santos came to the U.S. in 1988 and graduated from New York City’s A. Philip Randolph High School in 2000. Ana and her husband, Joel, are the parents of two daughters.
In addition to Santos, many students will be honored during the event.
“Celebrating our students' accomplishments in this public forum and acknowledging their academic successes encourages them to remember their power to excel and sets the perfect example for other students to believe in themselves and understand that hard work matters.” said David M. White, EDP director. “This event also provides the opportunity for our program to thank the campus and community for their support and assistance in serving EDP students.”
The Outstanding EDP Tutor of the Year awards will be presented to:

The following students will receive the Arthur O. Eve Scholarship:

- Ibrahima Toure, senior, Computer Science, New York City
The following people will also receive awards:
- Director’s Award—Xavier Mann, junior, Sport Management Clarence
- Gregory Antonio Award—Paul Overturf, junior, Criminal Justice
- Exemplary Service – Janet Knapp, EDP counselor emeritus
EDP students who earned a 2.70 and above GPA while completing 12 credits or more for the spring and fall semesters in 2014 will receive academic certificates. Silver certificates will be awarded to students between a 2.70 and 3.29 GPA. Gold certificates will be awarded to students between a 3.30 and 4.00 GPA. Students who participated in any volunteer or community services will also be recognized.
Twenty-three inductees will be welcomed into Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) National Honor Society, Alpha Mu chapter, during a private induction ceremony preceding the awards program, bringing total inductees to 214. Inductees include EDP and Full Opportunity Programs (FOP) students as well. Chi Alpha Epsilon honors students who achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better for two consecutive semesters and attend Fredonia full time. Chi Alpha Epsilon stands for Center for Academic Excellence and was founded at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1990 by Dr. Elbert M. Saddler. Fredonia’s chapter was founded in 1999.
