Jeffrey Woodard has been named the new Director of Marketing and Communications for Fredonia. He will begin his new duties on campus July 6.

Mr. Woodard has been the Director of News and the Information Center at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo since October 2008. In his role as news director, Woodard has been responsible for the overall brand strategy for the station’s news image. He was instrumental in the execution of the station’s strategic plan, content marketing strategy, public relations, team management and team building. During his seven years as news director, the station’s news product led all key demographics in morning, early-evening and late-evening time periods. His team won 34 regional Radio-Television Digital News Association Awards, and six national Edward R. Murrow Awards, including the prestigious Overall Excellence. Woodard started at WGRZ-TV in 1998, and previously served as newscast producer, managing editor and executive producer. He also has television and radio experience in Syracuse and Jamestown.

Fredonia Interim Vice President for University Advancement Betty Gossett noted, “I'm thrilled to have Jeff join our team. His experience and passion for Fredonia will help us deliver our message in creative and inspiring new ways. I'm looking forward to working with him and happy to welcome him ‘home.’"

At Fredonia, Woodard will oversee the university’s Office of Marketing and Communications. The office staff executes the marketing of Fredonia’s powerful education brand on all digital platforms including the college website and social media. On those platforms, the office will tell the stories of the profound positive impact the Fredonia experience has on students through a quality education and inclusive student activities. The office also supports publications and written communications to entice potential students to learn more about the university, to support development efforts, and to keep alumni engaged in campus activities and support Fredonia gatherings and endeavors.

The appointment is a homecoming for Woodard, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from Fredonia in 1997.

“Fredonia changed my life and had a profound impact on my career,” Woodard said. “I am thrilled to bring my marketing, branding, and story-telling experience back to campus to advance Fredonia’s image throughout Western New York and the entire northeast.”
