FREDONIA, N.Y. — Sept. 18, 2008 ¬–
The SUNY Fredonia Department of Visual Arts and New Media will welcome Emily Hubley — a 30-year veteran of the animation industry — to campus to speak on Oct. 2 at 8:30 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Ms. Hubley has made short, animated films for three decades and provided animation to television, fictional and documentary films for more than 10 years. She recently completed her first feature film, “The Toe Tactic” (2008), which has been screened at several film festivals, including South by Southwest, New Directors/New Films, and the San Francisco International Film Festival. In 2004 she was named by the Sundance Institute as an Annenberg Film Fellow. She also attended the Sundance 2002 Screenwriters’ and 2003 Filmmakers’ labs.
Ms. Hubley created artwork and animation for John Cameron Mitchell’s 2001 production of “Hedwig and the Angry Itch,” as well as inserts for many documentaries including, “The Boy in the Bubble” (2006) and “Everything’s Cool” (2007). A daughter of pioneer animators Faith and John Hubley, Emily worked on Faith Hubley's films at The Hubley Studio, Inc. from 1977 to 2001. She lives with her husband and children in Maplewood, N.J.
Her presentation is part of a weekly “Visiting Artists” series that is required for all visual arts and new media students, although in this case all campus and community members interested in animation and film are also welcome to attend.
