A full day of live music, activities and raffles will be held this Saturday, April 14, at Barker Commons in the Village of Fredonia with the ninth annual Rockin’ The Commons, benefitting Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The event is put on every year by Fredonia Radio Systems with the help of WNYF, Teacher Education Club and Sound Services.

In case of rain, the activities will move to the First United Methodist Church, across the street from Barker Commons.

Proceeds this year will go towards breast cancer research and patient care in memory of SUNY Fredonia criminal justice adjunct professor, Janice Slaton. Ms. Slaton lost her battle to breast cancer last December. Fredonia Radio Systems’ General Manager Jud Heussler was one of Slaton’s students before her passing. “Jan was one of those professors that taught you how it really is instead of just out of the book. She taught our class up until two weeks before she passed away.”

Rockin’ The Commons will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with non-stop entertainment and activities for students, faculty and community members. The event will feature live performances, a children’s fair, a bounce house, a Chinese auction and Chiavetta’s Catering.

“This is always a great event because there is so much going on and there is something for everyone,” Heussler said.

Tickets for the Chiavetta’s dinner will be $7 and are available at the ticket office located in the Temporary Office Complex in the Dods Hall parking lot. The price will increase to $8 the day of the event.
