SUNY Fredonia's Fifth Annual Public Speaking Competition will be held Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m. in 209 McEwen Hall. This event provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate and practice public speaking skills in front of a panel of experienced judges.

Any student enrolled at SUNY Fredonia can participate. Students have the option to compete in two speech categories: informative or persuasive. There is an eight minute time limit. The judges will be evaluating the speeches based on presentation content and delivery.

An award ceremony will be held after the event where first and second place winners from each category will be announced and presented with prizes (first place receives $200; second place receives $100). Participants who do not place will be eligible to win various gift baskets. Refreshments will also be provided.

To register, stop by the sign-up table between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the ground floor of McEwen Hall on Wednesday, March 25 and Thursday, March 26, as well as Monday, March 30 through Wednesday, April 1.

The Applied Communication Association has organized this event since 2005. The competition is co-sponsored by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), Golden Key International Honor Society, and the Corydon Crowell Endowment Fund through the Fredonia College Foundation.
