Fredonia's Gus Alvarez Jr. won the men's pole vault at Saturday's St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic outdoor track and field meet.
Alvarez cleared a personal-best 4.85 meters -- 15 feet, 11 inches -- and moved to 10th on the current NCAA Division III national qualifying list. He also moved to No. 3 on Fredonia's Top 10 outdoor pole vault list. His previous-best vault was 4.65 meters.
Fredonia had one other event winner Saturday as Nick Serafin cleared 1.88 meters -- 6 feet, 2 inches -- to win the high jump.
Other top Blue Devils were Griffin Dombroske, second in the triple jump with a personal-best 13.69 meters (44 feet, 11 inches); Dan Sudyn, a personal-best long jump of 6.60 meters (21 feet, 11 1/2 inches); and Sean McGee, a personal-best 11.73 meters (38 feet, 6 inches) in the shot put.
