The trio of Allie Wandell, Payton Gilbert, and Grace Alexander combined to scored 61 points in a 78-66 win at William Smith College on Friday night. Wandell topped all scorers with 23 points, and also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
On Monday, the SUNYAC named Wandell its Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
Gilbert, the reigning SUNYAC Player of the Week, added 21 and eight rebounds -- just two boards shy of her third-straight double-double, and Alexander had 17 points and four assists. Freshman Alexys Neckers dished out six assists and had three steals.
After a couple of early lead changes, a layup by Wandell gave the Devils a 7-5 lead they would maintain the rest of the game.
After a three pointer by William Smith's Miranda Martin in the final minute of the first quarter, the Herons pulled within two points, 21-19. The Devils would score the final bucket of the first, then the first eight of the second quarter to complete a 10-point run, and go up 32-19.
The Herons would pull within five points late in the third quarter, 53-48, but Alexander drilled a three to end that frame as the Devils maintained their advantage.
William Smith was led by Amelia McCully with 19 points and Molly Walsh with 14.
The Devils held a healthy 45-29 edge in rebounding, and made hay at the foul line, shooting 19 of 23 (83 percent). Alexander hit three of the Devils' five three-pointers.
The Devils head to Alfred University on Wednesday.
