After a slow start to the game, the Fredonia State women's basketball team closed out a 61-58 victory with a strong fourth quarter to take down the Plattsburgh State Cardinals on Saturday. 

Anna Chiacchia led the team with 17 points, five assists, and three blocks. Two of her blocks came in key possessions down the stretch in the fourth quarter as the Devils staged their comeback.

Morgan Davis had 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench, and Katie Pitcher had 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

The Devils trailed 14-6 after the first quarter, and trailed by as many as 15 points late in the second quarter, but slowly crept back into the game. 

They outscored Plattsburgh 18-8 in the fourth to score their much-needed SUNYAC win. The Devils improved to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC. Plattsburgh fell to 5-8 and 2-5. 

The Devils shot 44 percent from the floor compared to Plattsburgh's 36 percent shooting. After shooting two of 12 in the first quarter (16 percent), the Devils shot 52 percent (22 of 42) over the final three quarters.

Plattsburgh had three players in double digits, led by Mya Smith with 17 and Kayla Doody with 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

The women travel to Oneonta and New Paltz next Friday and Saturday to continue SUNYAC play.
