Fredonia senior Hannah Kurbs ran a school record 37:55.74 to finish second in the women's 10,000 meters at Friday's SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field championship meet.
Kurbs took the lead after the third of 25 laps and held it until four laps remained when she was overtaken by eventual winner Genny Corcoran of Geneseo. Both women plus the next five finishers ran below the qualifying time for All-Atlantic Regional Track Conference meet May 15 and May 16.
The school record by Kurbs eclipsed Sarah Furman's 38:06.26 set in May of 2010. It was also an improvement on Kurbs's 39:02.29 last month at the Cortland Classic.
She earned eight of Fredonia's 12 points, with Cassie Serafin earning three and Maddie Sohl. Serafin finished sixth and Sohl eighth in the long jump with distances of 5.26 meters (17 feet, 3 ¼ inches) and 5.21 meters (17 feet, 1 ¼ inches), respectively.
Macy Brooks earned 1,849 points in the first four events of the women's heptathlon. Her shot put of 9.13 meters was third best among the nine multi-athletes in the event.
