If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. That might be the tune for Fredonia State's Jackson Retzer after his weekend in New York, New York.
The junior midfielder accounted for the only scoring Saturday -- his third goal of the season -- in the Blue Devils' 1-0 men's soccer win over Baruch College at Randall's Island Park. Ty Bentham was credited with two saves while posting his 13th shutout over his four-year college career.
Retzer had both goals Friday in Fredonia State's 2-2 double-overtime tie with Hunter College. His game-winner Saturday came on a header in the 53rd minute off a cross into the box by Matt Cullen. Until the trip to the Big Apple, Retzer had no goals in his previous 27 college games.
"It was a big bounce-back win for us today," Fredonia State Head Coach P.J. Gondek said. "Baruch had the luxury of resting while we played yesterday ... but I thought we looked like the better side from the start."
The Blue Devils return home for their next six games, starting with Houghton next Friday in the nightcap of the eight-team Blue Devil Classic. "If there is anything to improve on," Gondek said, "it's finishing the chances we create and putting teams away."
