Cameron Sample claimed the individual title in the long jump as the Fredonia State men's track and field team had some stellar individual performances en route to a third-place finish at the SUNYAC Championships.
On Friday, freshman Camiren Collins broke the 60m school record, and later that day sophomore Jordan Lockett broke the 200m Blue Devil mark. Sample's leap came on Saturday, and ranks second all time in the Fredonia State record book.
Rapahel Baez was second in the high jump, although he finished clearing the same height as the winner, but had more misses at the lower height. Quillan Shimp was second in the pentathlon, winning two of the seven individual events.
In addition to Baez and Shimp, runners up also included Collins (60m), the 4x400 relay team, and Jacob Futch (pole vault).
Cortland State took the team title, followed by Oneonta. The Devils, with 82 points, finished comfortably in third among the 12 teams competing. They earned points in the Battle by the Lake, scoring better than local SUNYAC rival Buffalo State, who was fifth with 47 points.
The meet was the largest SUNYAC Meet in recent history. Joining the traditional SUNYAC members in the meet as provisional members in track and field only were Penn State Behrend, Alfred State, SUNY Cobleskill, and SUNY Delhi for a total of 12 teams.
