The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selected the recipients for its weekly men's ice hockey awards, including Fredonia senior Todd Schauss of Terryville, Conn., as the Player of the Week.
Cortland junior Nick Modica of Suffern was named Goaltender of the Week, and SUNY Buffalo State freshman Andrew Logar of Niagara Falls, N.Y., as the Rookie of the Week.
Schauss scored the game-winning goal on Saturday, Jan. 5, as well as providing the assist for the game-winning goal on Friday night, both wins over the Stevenson Mustangs. The goal in Saturday's 1-0 win was the fifth of the season for Schauss and his first game-winner of the season. The assist in Friday's 3-1 Fredonia victory set up linemate Jasper Korican-Barlay. Both plays came late in the second period of each game.
Modica, who was named the tournament MVP, helped lead the Red Dragons to the Codfish Bowl title over the weekend, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.00 GAA, 90 saves and a .978 save percentage as Cortland captured its fourth straight in-season tournament championship dating back to 2014-15. In a 2-1 victory over Bryn Athyn on Friday, Modica tied his career high with 46 saves. He then turned aside 44 shots as the Red Dragons upended host and nationally eighth-ranked Mass Boston, 2-1, in the title game on Saturday. For the season, Modica has a 6-6 record with a 2.67 GAA, one shutout and a .926 save percentage.
Logar recorded three assists and was a +3 in Buffalo State's 6-2 win over Neumann in the consolation game of the Norwich University Tournament this weekend. He also has a +1 rating in a 4-3 loss against nationally-ranked Endicott on Friday.
