Dr. W. Theodore “Ted” Lee will present the President’s Award for Excellence lecture, “The Evolution of Pharmaceutical Drugs: Teaching Drug Discovery, Development, and Mechanism of Action,” on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
Now in his 15th year at Fredonia, Dr. Lee devotes his research to molecular analysis and identification of microorganisms from aquatic systems and the teaching of molecular biology and biochemistry. Results of his research have appeared in more than a dozen publications. Dr. Lee has received 14 research grants.
Students admire Lee for his enthusiasm, knowledge and innovative teaching techniques; colleagues praise him for his confident command of the material and the classroom and high degree of student engagement.
Dr. Lee is also chair of the Health Professions Advising Committee and former chair of the Department of Biology. He earned his doctoral degree in Biological Sciences from Syracuse University in 1991 and a bachelor’s degree from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He has also performed postdoctoral research at The Ohio State University and Duke University Medical Center.
President Virginia Horvath will give the introduction as well as closing remarks. A reception will follow the lecture in Mason Hall.
Dr. Lee is one of four 2014 President’s Award recipients including Director of Career Development Tracy Collingwood, Senior Grounds Worker Brent Kawski, Men’s Hockey Coach Jeffrey Meredith and Dr. Andrea Zevenbergen of the Department of Psychology.
