Known as one of the largest job fairs in the western New York region, Fredonia’s Career Development Office (CDO) hosted its sixth annual Job and Internship Expo recently, filling the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
Over 260 students attended and were able to network directly with employers and alumni, and also talk to Fredonia interns currently working at various organizations. A LinkedIn Photo Booth was also set up, with 37 students taking the opportunity to represent themselves professionally using social media.
Feedback from employers and participants has been extremely positive, with many recruiters noting that Fredonia’s is the best job fair in the region.
More than 76 employers were on campus to discuss possible job openings and internships within their organizations. Of the 120 representatives that attended, 25 were Fredonia alumni. Represented industries included business, energy, financial services, manufacturing, health care, technology, health and human service agencies, retail management, government, law enforcement, and many other fields, offering full- and part-time positions, summer jobs and/or internships.
Companies that participated were based in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Jamestown, Cheektowaga, Amherst, N.Y.; Dunkirk, Fredonia and other upstate New York regions. In addition, there were also out-of-state companies headquartered in Pennsylvania.
New employers included Quinlan, Citi, and Entercom Buffalo, along with returning organizations such as the FBI, Disney College Program, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Time Warner.
Tau Sigma honor society members served as volunteers at the event, and were able to network with employers. The impact of the expo continues to provide further opportunities for students. More than 40 interviews are scheduled on campus as a result of the expo, with more being added to the CDO's growing recruitment program every day.
