Liz Callaway, an acclaimed Broadway singer and voice of beloved female characters in Disney animated films, will conduct a master class with Voice students from the School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance on Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m., in Mason Hall Room 1080.
Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Callaway starred in the original Broadway casts of “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Baby” and “Miss Saigon” as well as “Cats.” She has also released five solo recordings, while establishing a major career as a concert and recording artist with her award-winning album, “Sibling Revelry,” created with her sister, Ann Hampton Callaway.
Extensive U.S. symphony work includes appearances at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Ravinia and The Hollywood Bowl. Worldwide, she has performed in China, Australia (with Stephen Schwartz), New Zealand, Iceland, Estonia, France (Theatre du Chatelet, Paris), Slovenia, South Korea and Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, where she premiered a new concert featuring the music of Stephen Sondheim.
Callaway sang the Academy Award nominated song “Journey to the Past” as the singing voice of the title character in the animated feature “Anastasia” and is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s “Aladdin and the King of Thieves” and “The Return of Jafar.” Other film work includes “The Swan Princess,” “Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.”
The master class was originally scheduled in January but was cancelled due to weather conditions. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored at the door.
