Fredonia closed out its 2018 women's lacrosse season with a 22-7 loss to Oneonta at rainy University Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The end of the 2-14 campaign was not without a highlight. Senior goalkeeper Nicole Burrows (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) set a new single-season school record with 19 saves. She finished the season with 177 saves, seven more than Casey Chiesa during the 2010 season.
The single-season record gave Burrows her third school record. She stopped 612 shots over four seasons -- 21 more than Chiesa stopped in her career. In a win last week at New Paltz, Burrows made 28 saves, a Fredonia single-game record.
Prior to the game, Burrows and senior Audrey Yokopovich (Webster/Webster Thomas) were recognized. Yokopovich missed all but the first two games of the season because of an injury.
During the game, freshman attack Casey Villagomez (West Seneca/West Seneca West) had three goals and one assist and sophomore attack Madeline Haney (Macedon/Victor) added two goals. Burrows was credited with three ground balls, Burrows and Villagomez with two caused turnovers each, and freshman midfielder Alexis Skowron (Elma/Iroquois) took five draw controls.
