Cancer Awareness Day 2016 is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10, as part of the annual Fredonia Blue Devil Classic.
Held for the first time in 2015, Cancer Awareness Day is a joint venture between Blue Devil women's and men's soccer teams to raise awareness - and donations - about ovarian and prostate cancer.
Fundraising efforts will include:
• Admission price to the Saturday games;
• A series of 50-50 drawings at all Blue Devil games that weekend (Friday and Saturday);
• A silent auction of donated prizes. Among the prizes awarded last year were food and drink items, lottery tickets, rounds of golf at area courses, Blue Devil gear, and much more.
Last year's donation of $3,158 to Team Cure at Roswell Cancer Institute in Buffalo included a $1,500 check from Lake Shore Savings & Loan Association, a long-time supporter of Blue Devil athletics.
This year's schedule consists of two women's games at 1:30 p.m. (Fredonia vs. Mount Union, and Baldwin Wallace vs. Oswego State) and two men's games at 4:30 p.m. (Fredonia vs. Baldwin Wallace, and Buffalo State vs. Houghton).
