SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher is beginning Phase II of a SUNY-wide strategic plan that is intended to guide SUNY for the next five years and advise SUNY in its development for the next decade.
The plan’s development will commence during an initial planning session happening Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y.
The session will include a group of 200 delegates, broadly representative of various SUNY constituencies. SUNY Fredonia will have three representatives among the “Group of 200,” including Averl Otis, director of Multicultural Affairs; Charles Notaro, executive director of the Faculty Student Association (FSA), and JoAnn Niebel, Chairwoman of the Fredonia College Council.
This will be the first of seven “Conversations” designed to engage all audiences, solicit ideas, and create a statewide dialogue that will culminate in a five-year strategic plan for SUNY. The remaining events will be held through Feb. 15, 2010 at locations throughout New York State. The next one will be held Nov. 4 on the University at Buffalo campus.
Social media will play a critical role in the planning process. David Belsky has been named Special Assistant for Strategic Communications and will oversee various tools designed to keep those interested informed and solicit feedback during the planning process. Applications like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube have also been branded to allow transparent dialogue and real-time feedback and comments.
Additionally, these Conversations will be streamed live on the web and participation is encouraged at www.suny.edu/impact.
