The Chemistry Seminar series is hosting a talk on the philosophy of science Friday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. in Houghton 213 by Dr. David Ball, Cleveland State University . His talk is entitled, "Science, Skepticism, and the Benefits of Random Knowledge."
Seminar series coordinator Dr. Mark Janik noted, "Many scientists cannot produce a good definition of science. In this talk, which will be more about science philosophy than science fact, we will consider how science is - and is not - defined.
"One of the scientist's best tools is skepticism, but we will see that it is not always properly applied. Finally, we will point out that the advancement of science can come from the most unexpected places. Several historical examples and one example from the speaker's own experience with random knowledge will be presented."
