The community group, Chautauqua Citizens Respond to Climate Crisis, will host a rally in downtown Fredonia on Saturday, Sept. 20, to educate attendees on the problematic nature of the world’s changing climate.

Fredonia students and faculty, and other community members will have the chance to learn more about the climate crisis while enjoying activities for all ages.

A march from Fenton Hall on the Fredonia campus to Barker Commons will head the rally, with the lineup forming at 9:30 a.m. The rally will be held at the gazebo in Barker Commons from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., running in conjunction with the Fredonia Farmers Market’s Sample Day.

Fredonia faculty members Dr. Jonathan Titus, Dr. Ivani Vassoler-Froelich and Dr. Peter Reinelt, and Jamestown Community College faclty member Glenn Wahl will speak, discussing climate change, its impact on society, and ways to reduce, prepare for and adapt to the issue.

A related childrens' creativity event will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in Barker Common (with the Steele Room of Barker Library as the rain location) and children of all ages are welcome. Those attending will work on creating flags, signs, banners, props and posters to be used for the march and rally. Those attending are welcome to bring craft supplies.

The march preceding the event coincides with People’s Climate March in New York City, designed to bring governmental attention to the climate crisis.
