The college careers of two Fredonia seniors ended May 25 at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field championship meet.

Sarah Couperus (Marion, N.Y./Marion) competed in the women's high jump and Brittany Feldman (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) in the women's 400 meters on a weather-plagued afternoon.

Couperus cleared 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1 3/4 inches) before bowing out of the high jump. There were five women still jumping when officials suspended the meet as a severe thunderstorm was moving into the area. She was making her first appearance at the national meet following a collegiate career in which she tied for second outdoors and third indoors on Fredonia's Top 10 high jump career lists. She is also sixth in the triple jump.

Feldman completed her event just ahead of the weather delay. She was clocked in 56.56 seconds for the 400 meters, 15th in the field of 22 women. The top nine advanced to the final on May 26.

A two-time NCAA Division III All-America in the 400 meters, Feldman graduates as the school record-holder in the 400 meters both indoors and outdoors. She also holds school indoor records in the 300 meters, 400 meters, and 500 meters indoors and is part of both 4-by-400 meter school-record relays, plus the indoor distance medley relay. Her name also appears on the Top 10 lists in seven other events.
