Educators, scientists and students of the Department of Biology will be hosting the second Physiology "PhUn Days" on Friday Nov. 6 and Friday Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Science Center.
Over 170 Dunkirk Middle School students will have the opportunity to learn about the physiology of exercise and health. They will be able to participate in activities in four different labs relating to how their bodies work. Activities will be led by Biology faculty members Drs. Scott Medler, Kathleen Lesniak, Todd Backes, Fred Harrington and Bruce Tomlinson, along with university students from the department.
The fun and engaging activities will help students learn about the cardiovascular and muscular systems by monitoring their own hearts and muscles while they exercise.
For more information on the event, contact Dr. Lesniak at 716-673-4804 or at lesniak@fredonia.edu.
PhUn week activities are a part of the American Physiological Societies national K-12 outreach program to introduce young people to the important role of physiology in their daily lives, while also serving as an encouragement for them to explore career options in biology and health related professions.
