Scholarship recipients also to be recognized
The Department of Communication will induct 20 students to Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society of the National Communication Association. Lambda Pi Eta recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies. Students must achieve an overall GPA of at least 3.5 to receive an invitation to join the society. At the induction ceremony, 12 students also will be recognized as recipients of communication scholarships.
The ceremony will be held Saturday, April 18 at 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Horizon Room. Richard Ryan, associate director of development at Fredonia and a 2004 graduate of the department, will serve as keynote speaker.
The following students will receive scholarships:
• Gregory Kowal, an Audio/Radio major from West Seneca, will receive the Louis C. and Dr. David S. Adler Scholarship, presented to an outstanding broadcast journalism student.
• Alexis Ziccardi, an Audio/Radio major from East Aurora, will be presented the Dan Berggren Excellence in Audio/Radio Scholarship, awarded to a returning student who has exhibited commitment, promise, and excellent academic performance in audio/radio courses.
• Meghan Devine, a double major in Audio/Radio and Media Management from Clarence, will receive the Anne Bernstein Memorial Fund scholarship, recognizing an outstanding graduating female majoring in broadcast journalism.
• Kimberly Bright, a double major in Audio/Radio and Video Production from Sparrow Bush, will be presented the Edward S. Edelman Scholarship, awarded to a returning student who has worked at WCVF, Fredonia’s television station, at least one year.
• Jacqueline Lathron, a Public Relations major from Avon, will receive the Anthony J. Ellis Scholarship, presented to a deserving returning student.
• Five students will be presented the Arthur R. Maytum Scholarship, recognizing outstanding returning students: Patrick Myers, a Video Production major from Chautauqua; Colin Perry, a Journalism major from Cassadaga; Sarah Fuller, a double major in Journalism and Public Relations from Chestertown; and Julianne Foster, a Media Management major, and Tracy Halloran, a Public Relations major, both from Rochester, N.Y.
• Kaitlin Tillman, a Media Management major from Lockport, will receive the Arlie Muller Parks Scholarship, recognizing an entering freshman/female.
• Rachel Fischer, a double major in Public Relations and Spanish from Poughkeepsie, will be presented the Richard and Pam Ryan Endowment, awarded to a returning student who is ambitious and shows promise.

The Department of Communication offers six majors: Audio/Radio, Communication Studies, Journalism, Media Management, Public Relations and Video Production. Graduates of the program have successful careers in corporate and public settings and working in media at all levels.
