Fredonia and Buffalo State skated to a 1-1 SUNYAC men's hockey tie in overtime Saturday at Steele Hall.

Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) scored for the Blue Devils, who defeated the Bengals 4-2 on Friday at Buffalo. Jake Rosen countered for the Bengals.

Both goaltenders were tested often and were equal to the ask. Fredonia's Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) and Buffalo State's Mike DeLaVergne had 42 saves each.

Ortiz put Fredonia on top 3:52 of the first period on a power play during a five-minute major against the Bengals. Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.) and Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) assisted.

Rosen's goal at 4:50 of the second period was also on the power play. Brody Power and Taylor Pryce earned assists.

Each team earned earned a half-point in the Battle By The Lake, a season-long multi-sport series between the two athletic programs. Fredonia ends the first semester with a 9.5 to 2.5 lead.

The Blue Devils stay in SUNYAC competition next weekend when they play host to Potsdam on Friday night and Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
