Geneseo won the battle of the SUNYAC unbeatens, riding a big third quarter to a 69-55 women's basketball win over Fredonia at Steele Hall on Tuesday.
After playing to a 25-25 halftime tie, the Knights -- now 6-0 in the conference and 12-0 overall -- outscored Fredonia 22-12 in the third quarter. They pushed their lead out to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Alexis Cheatham (Lockport/Lockport) had 23 points to lead the Blue Devils, who fell to 6-1 in SUNYAC and 11-2 overall. She was 6 of 9 on three-pointers while her teammates were 0 of 10 combined.
Jacque Law (Machias/Pioneer) added 10 points and 11 rebounds for Fredonia.
Geneseo's Katie Durand had a career-high 23 points while Katie Vienneau added 11 and Kayleigh Cavanaugh and Kara Houppert added nine each.
Geneseo held Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) to six points -- all in the second half. The SUNYAC's leading scorer came in averaging 16.7 points per game.
Fredonia, who had won seven straight, will look to get a new streak started when they play host to Brockport at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Blue Devils then have a rematch with the Knights in Geneseo at 4 p.m. Saturday.
