A service ace by sophomore Sara Madison (Rochester, N.Y.) was the final point in Fredonia's 3-2 home women's volleyball win Thursday over Nazareth College.

Madison's ace, her second of the game, put the finishing touch on a 15-10 fifth-set win by the Blue Devils, who also won the second and third sets of the non-conference match.

The 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 21-25 and 15-10 win avenged an earlier loss this season to the Golden Flyers, which had their eight-match winning streak snapped.

Fredonia improved to 8-6 while Nazareth fell to 8-5.

Jessica DiChristopher (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and Paulina Rein (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) , both juniors, led the Fredonia net attack with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Another junior, Kelly Edinger (Rochester, N.Y.), collected 38 assists.

Defensively, junior Lauren Hokaj (Lancaster, N.Y.) was credited with 21 digs, while Rein had 20. Top blockers were freshman Jane Garrity (Vicdtor, N.Y.) with one solo and four assists; DiChristopher with one solo and three assists; and Rein with four assists.

The Blue Devils have a rare weekend off before heading into SUNYAC play next weekend at Oswego. They will play Buffalo State, Plattsburgh, and Brockport as part of the pool play format.
