For only the third time in program history, the Fredonia women's lacrosse team has reached the 14-win mark.

The Blue Devils' 9-6 win against Potsdam on Saturday afternoon stretched their unbeaten steak to eight games. The team is seeded No. 2 in the SUNYAC playoff bracket, with their first game in the semi-finals scheduled for May 1 in Cortland, N.Y. (BRACKET)

Before the game, the team honored it's four senior captains: Katie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia), Marissa Cussins (Corning, N.Y. / Corning-Painted Post West), Shelby DePew (Macedon, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) and Katie Glagolev (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas). In appropriate fasion, all four seniors were involved in the nine Blue Devils goals.

Glagolev opened up the scoring three minutes into the game, only to have Potsdam answer with the next three to put the Bears up, 3-1.

DePew would then score twice late in the first half, netting the next two Blue Devil goals and Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Thomas) added one more before halftime. Fredonia took a 4-3 lead into the half.

Midway through the second half the Blue Devils began pulling away. Kleine tallied four points in less than three minutes, which inluded an assist on an Emily Polizzi (Rushville, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) goal and three unassisted goals of her own.  Kristie Kleine (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) scored as well to extend a lead the team wouldn't relinquish.

Cussins, normally the team's primary scoring threat, tallied four assists.

Katie Kleine is closing in on two school records. Currently at 278 career points, she needs eight more to tie the record currently held by Amy Simon (286). She also needs only three more draw controls to tie that record, also held by Simon (185).

The Blue Devils will play next Friday in the SUNYAC semifinals. On April 28 the SUNYAC quarterfinals will take place as #3 Geneseo plays #6 Buffalo State, and #4 Brockport plays #5 Oneonta. The lowest remaining seed after the quarterfinal round will play #1 Cortland, while the second-lowest seed will play #2 Fredonia.
