2018 Women's Soccer Team
Fredonia women's soccer ended its regular season with a 3-1 SUNYAC road loss Saturday to the Potsdam Bears. However, fortune was on their side as Brockport and SUNY Buffalo State both lost as well, allowing the Devils to qualify as the sixth-and-final seed in the SUNYAC Tournament.
Fredonia finished 3-5-1, earning 10 points, in conference play. Brockport and Buffalo State both end at 3-6 and on the outside of the playoff picture.
Sophomore defender Lauren Cullinan (Clarence/Clarence) scored Fredonia's lone goal, her second of the year, assisted by freshman midfielder Sophie Richiusa (Penfield/Penfield) in the 65th minute. It cut the Potsdam lead to 2-1.
Amber Wyatt scored in the 45th minute, Brooke Falsion in the 61st, and Maeve Morrissey in the 68th for the Bears, who are headed to the SUNYAC six-team tournament as the No. 2 seed.
The Blue Devils were picked to finish last in the coach's pre-season poll, which helped rally the squad and made qualifying for the tournament that much sweeter for the team.
"We are very excited to get in," said head coach Chris Case. "First playoff berth in four years so this is a new experience for all these young ladies. We look forward to the challenge that it presents. Its another step in the right direction to rebuild our program."
