Fredonia added to its total donation to the American Cancer Society and to its scoring totals Saturday during Pink The Rink 2017.
The Blue Devils, donned in pink jerseys, lit the red lamp repeatedly for a 15-1 non-conference win over the Post Wildcats, an NCAA Division II hockey program in its second year of existence.
Sophomore winger Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored four goals -- equaling his total in the previous 16 games -- while senior winger Marcus Ortiz (Richardson, Texas) added three goals and now has eight on the season.
In addition to the goals, the Blue Devils -- improving to 8-7-2 -- collected 22 assists, five by freshman winger Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) and four by junior winger Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.). Haynes, with one goal, had a six-point night.
Fredonia was 4 of 9 on the power play while Ortiz and senior center Mac McAvoy (Port Colborne, Ont.) each had a short-handed goal.
Three goaltenders split time with freshman starter Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) earning the win after making five saves in the first period. Fifth-year senior Chris Paulin (Lockport) stopped six shots in the second period while junior Nick Harper (Baldwinsville) made two stops and allowed the lone goal to Post's Steven McHale midway through the third period.
Cancer awareness was the overriding theme of the night on the 11th renewal of Pink The Rink. Moneys were raised through the sale of game jerseys worn by the players and the referees, plus the sale of items in the Steele Hall lobby. With gate receipts added to the total, the event raised an estimated $8,000, which brings the Pink The Rink total donation up to an estimated $75,000 since the event began. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society of Western New York.
Fredonia returns to SUNYAC competition with road games at Potdam on Friday night and at Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
