Senior Alexis Cheatham (Lockport/Lockport) nailed five threes en route to a 21-point effort in helping Fredonia drop the Buffalo State Bengals, 81-60, on Saturday. Four other Devils combined for five threes. It was the second most this season behind the 11 threes Fredonia hit in its previous game, an overtime victory at Brockport.
The Devils improve to 14-5 and 9-4 in the SUNYAC. Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) added 13 points and Khee Nance (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) added 10. Kathryn Halloran (Angola/Immaculata) grabbed eight boards for the Devils.
Princella McCullough led the Bengals (6-14, 3-10) with 19 points and Mariah Rosario added 15.
Fredonia also picked up a point in the 'Battle by the Lake' and now lead Buffalo State, 10.5 to 3.5.
The win puts the Devils one-half game behind Oneonta (9-3) for second place, and a half game in front of New Paltz (8-4).
Prior to the contest, Sabrina Macaulay was honored for joining the 1,000-Point Club. Macaulay reached that milestone with a career-high 33 points in last season's final home game, an 89-81 overtime victory vs. Brockport in the SUNYAC Tournament.
The Devils travel to New Paltz and Oneonta next weekend.
