A balanced scoring attack kept the Fredonia women's basketball team undefeated as they dropped Pitt-Bradford, 77-68, on Saturday. They improved to 4-0.

Alexis Cheatham (Lockport /Lockport) was one of four Devils to score in double digits, finishing with 17 points, including five three pointers. Kathryn Halloran (Angola/Immaculata) finished with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Alisha Szumigala (Forestville/Forestville) had 12 and Jenna Einink (Westfield/Chautauqua Lake) finished with 11 points.

Bradford matched the Devils basket for basket in the first quarter, trailing 24-23. Fredonia began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring Bradford 20-13, to take an eight-point lead, 44-36, into the break. Halloran had nine points at the halfway mark to pace the Devils.

The Devils then dominated play late in the third quarter. Leading Bradford 49-41, Cheatham nailed a three pointer at the 5:00 mark to start a 17-2 run. The Panthers made a free throw just before the end of the frame to pull them within 22.

Bradford turned in a solid fourth quarter effort, outscoring the Devils 24-11, but would not get any closer than 12 points until the closing seconds.

Sarah Sweazy (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and Jacque Law (Machias/Pioneer) each added nine points to the Blue Devil effort. Einink had six assists and Cheatham five, while Jamie Curry (Ransomville/Wilson) grabbed eight rebounds.

Fredonia connected on 10 three pointers, compared to seven by Bradford. Fredonia edged them in rebounds, 49-48, but Bradford held a 21-11 advantage in offensive boards.

The Devils defense also produced nine blocked shots, three by Sweazy.

The 77 points scored by the Devils were a season low. They came into the game averaging 89.3 points per game, ranking sixth in Division III.

Bradford drops to 1-2.

Fredonia has one more tune up Tuesday before begin conference play this Saturday against Potsdam in Steele Hall.
