Faculty and staff are invited to a one-hour summary and discussion of Howard Gardner’s book, Five Minds for the Future, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 12:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Williams Center.
As a preview for Gardner’s convocation address on Wednesday, this session will focus on the book that Publishers Weekly calls “a thought-provoking, visionary attempt to delineate the kinds of mental abilities (‘minds’) that will be critical to success in a 21st century landscape of accelerating change and information overload.”
All are welcome!
The chapters of the book will be summarized briefly by Roger Byrne (Associate Dean, College of Arts and Sciences), Jamar Pickreign (Associate Dean, College of Education), and Ingrid Johnston-Robledo (Assistant Dean, College of Arts and Sciences), who will then lead small-group discussions of the ideas Gardner presents.
This dialogue is the first of six Red Balloon Book Dialogues sponsored by the Vice President for Academic Affairs this year. As part of the national AASCU Red Balloon project, SUNY Fredonia is thinking about ways that higher education is changing in the face of shifting demographics, resource challenges, and advancements in technology. Each dialogue will use this summary and discussion format, so each semester—with a very small investment of your time—you’ll have a chance to hear about three big ideas in higher education.
Desserts and beverages will be provided. If this is your lunch hour, you’re welcome to bring your lunch from home or the nearby Centre Point Lounge.
