The divers dominated and swimmer Sam Rokos (Delanson/Duanesburg) won two events at Grove City on Saturday as the Fredonia women's swimming and diving team fell to the Wolverines, 144-124.
Meghan Bartlett (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) took first on the 3-meter board with an NCAA-qualifying score of 269.40, just ahead of teammate Sam Kowalewski (Cowlsville/Attica) who finished with a score of 257.95. Freshman Julie Coomer (East Aurora/Iroquois) finished third at 257.95. Kowalewski then took first in the 1-meter board (240.95), followed by Coomer's fourth-place finish (209.95). Both finishes were season-bests for Kowalewski.
Rokos won both the 100-yard freestyle (55.32) and 200-yard individual medley (2:15.57) after she finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.70).
Danielle Dembrow (Lockport/Lockport) narrowly missed first place in two events. Her 1:10.80 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke was less than a second off first-place, and she was second in the 200-yard breaststroke by just .07 seconds (2:34.83).
Chelsea Spiegel (Spencerport/Spencerport) also scored points, taking fourth in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:59.89) and 200-yard backstroke (2:30.86), as well as a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:41.90).
Sophomore Taylor Chwalinski (West Seneca/West Seneca West) was third in both the 50-yard freestyle (27.04) and 100-yard freestyle (59.86). Freshman Caroline Bilotti (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:29.00) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.54).
The team will travel to Brockport on Jan. 30 for a meet with the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m.
