SUNY Fredonia's Dialogues on Diversity series presents an evening of discussion about indigenous cultures from Russia's Tomsk region to Western New York. The event takes place on Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in Fenton Hall Room 105. Cheryl John, director of the Native American Consortium, will moderate a discussion featuring three guest speakers.
Panelists are Zinaida Zavyalova, an assistant professor at the National Research Tomsk University who studies the indigenous Tartar culture (Tomsk is one of the oldest cities in Siberia, Russia); Andrea Cooke, member of the Onondaga nation who teaches Seneca Language and Iroquois Studies for the Gowanda, NY, school district; and Vince Schiffert, a Tuscaroran Nation member who teaches the language to elementary school children on the Tuscaroran Reservation. He also teaches native studies at Wheatfield High School.
