Amy Jo Dorler and Debbie Lanski of the Fredonia staff were recognized as recipients of Fredonia secretarial awards at the Fall 2015 Secretarial/Clerical Fall Conference held recently at the College Lodge.

Ms. Dorler, secretary in the Provost’s Office, received the Poummit Secretarial Award, named in honor of Janet Marks, a former secretary to the Fredonia president. Ms. Lanski, secretary of Student Affairs, received the Barbara Saletta Meritorious Service Award, which recognizes a secretarial or clerical employee for an outstanding service attitude.

Dorler has been a part of the university since 1998, starting out as a Keyboard Specialist in a dean’s office. She served as Secretary I for the Department of Sociocultural and Justice Sciences and since December 2013, has been Secretary II in the Provost’s Office. It was noted that she does not subscribe to the philosophy of only doing what is found in her job description, but goes above and beyond to help others. She is seen as a mentor by her peers and coworkers. Dorler was also recognized for her creativity and organizational skills in creating the Academic Affairs Calendar. Provost Terry Brown noted, “Amy Jo’s organization and knowledge has helped to inspire confidence that the Provost’s Office acts in a timely, accurate and responsive way.” Dorler is also described as level-headed with a problem solving attitude, and that her poise in these situations comes from being resourceful. Her warm and friendly personality, paired with her resourceful, collaborative, and effective work style, creates strong trusting and productive work relationships.

Lanski began her career at Fredonia in 2001 as a Keyboard Specialist in the Office of Admissions. In 2003 she became Secretary I in Student Affairs and in June was promoted to Secretary II in Student Affairs. She is described as having enthusiasm for Fredonia and all it has to offer. She regularly participates in Professional Development Day activities, Employee Assistance Program events, President’s All-campus Party, Civil Service Employees Association events, Fredonia Credit Union events, and she attends many of the plays and concerts that take place on campus. It was noted that Lanski truly cares about Fredonia and its employees and students, and goes out of her way regularly to help others. She often takes on extra tasks, such as serving on the search committee for the Provost, and accepts responsibility with enthusiasm and a smile.

Both awards were established through the Fredonia College Foundation to honor secretarial/clerical staff members for an outstanding service attitude, creativity, resourcefulness, demonstrated team effort and personal integrity and leadership. Recipients received a framed certificate and monetary award.
