From Feb. 14 to Feb. 19, Fredonia Department of Biology Professor Jonathan Titus spent time at the University of the Caribbean in Cancun, Mexico, to present his talk, “Forest Change in the Era of Anthropogenic Global Change.”
Dr. Titus additionally held discussions with Collaborative International Online Learning (COIL) students in Dr. Farid Pool’s business class, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Through the COIL program, students of both Dr. Pool’s class, and Titus’ Environmental Biology class are able to work together on a series of projects that encompass both business and biology. All of the projects focus around the theme of forest change in the era of anthropogenic global change.
“It was remarkable to see the emphasis on sustainable tourism expressed by the business students at the University of the Caribbean,” noted Titus. “Through COIL, students of different universities in different majors can collaborate on projects dealing with the major issues of our time. Students exchange ideas and develop creative projects using Mindmap and video.”
The COIL program was formed in 2004 by SUNY with the goal of enhancing the benefits of international education to more SUNY students, faculty and staff than are currently able to study abroad. The program focuses heavily on educating students on practices and technologies that can create international courses.
