Geoff Kelly, founding editor of The Public, Buffalo's newest alternative media publication, will be the keynote speaker at the 2015 Society of Professional Journalists conference to be held on Saturday, March 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at Williams Center Room 204.
Individual breakout discussions will be led by Erica Brecher, a multimedia journalist at WGRZ-TV; Jim Heaney, editor and executive director of Investigative Post, non-profit investigative reporting center; Tim Graham, a sports reporter with The Buffalo News; Andrew Baglini, meteorologist at WIVB-TV; Brian Meyer, news director at WBFO, and John DiSciullo, executive director of production and promotion at WBBZ-TV, at the conference being hosted by the Fredonia SPJ chapter. The keynote by Kelly will be given at 12:45 p.m.
Kelly is a former editor of Artvoice, an established alternative newspaper that covers arts, culture and local news. He and several former staff members at Artvoice launched The Public last fall in the midst of a challenging economic time for print media. Both publications are free and distributed on the Fredonia campus.
The conference is free and open to the public.
