Sheil of the State University of New York at Fredonia, and Professor Zinaida S. Zavyalova of National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University. The book is dedicated to Dr. Sheil, a longtime School of Music voice professor and choral conductor, who passed away in 2013. Dr. Lawson is a retired professor and former chair of the Psychology Department.
The book, available on Amazon, comes with a DVD featuring a native speaker who pronounces the names.
It was noted, “This collection of native names of the Tatar people, and the inevitable Russification of those names, will contribute to an understanding of the culture and folklore of this segment of the Siberian population. This dictionary includes more than 500 names with explanations of their meaning and a pronunciation guide. It is a comprehensive scientific work with elaborated analytical material including linguistic, statistical, and sociological analysis of the scrupulously collected material. The dictionary provides material related not only to Tatar names, but also to information related to the language, culture, and social life of the Tatar people.”
