Dr. Ziya Arnavut of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences was the main guest editor of the recently published special issue on Enabling technologies for Network-based applications of the Computer and Electrical Engineering Journal, published by Elsevier. Along with Dr. Arnavut, Dr. Ahmed Kamal from the Electrical Engineering Department of Iowa State University served as a guest editor.
The special issue addresses the support provided by enabling technologies for network-based applications. It covers recent advances in Quality of Service implementations, Software Defined Networks, Web services in cloud environment, Software defined networks, Compression, Search and Retrieval tools for real time applications, and network based image processing. Most of the papers submitted to the special issue were invited among the 23 papers published at the HONET 2013 conference. After an extensive peer review of these, eight papers were accepted for publication.
